Chelan after the fire and a flight to Stehekin

Aboard the Dehaviland after a walk around the city of Chelan (decorated with gorgeous zinnias and other flowers).

Beautiful day, still an atmosphere of smoke hangs in the upper air from the devastating forest fires.

Lake Chelan is 1500 feet deep in the deepest part of the lake.

The flight takes 30 min minutes from Chelan to Stehekin. The boat back takes two to four hours depending on fast or slow boat.

Or seaplane can be taken back as well.
If you fly in and out the same day you get a discounted fare. Chelan airways.

Stehekin offers fishing; boating, biking, horse back riding, canoeing and hiking.
And wilderness bakery. The lodge offers 5 flavored of homemade ice cream.

And, The Pacific Crest Trail goes through the area, so it's likely you'll meet some hikers who have almost finished their long trek from this side of Mexico to Canada.

This is one of the most beautiful areas of the trek, here in the North Cascades.

Lake Chelan and Stehekin are a welcome reprieve for those completing this long, long hike.

Beautiful Lake Chelan

1500' deep in this location.
A jewel that was home to natives, until settlers wanted it for themselves.
The natives were banished to the Coleville reservation.

Now wineries dot the landscape. The National Park service keeps this unincorporated city busy with National Park facilities.

Fly or boat in, horseback ride or hike. Your only options to visit Stehekin.

From Lummi Island

Lummi island is an isle in the Archipelago of the Salish Sea.

I have friends here and often stay on the island.

My daughter was here and we stayed on the island awhile, the weather was stunning.

We enjoyed lunch and vino at the cafe on the porch and watched sailboats sail by.

I'm going to take sailing lessons again. It's been since I was a kid.

Some scenery of MT Rainier today.

1.Christine Falls, making a rainbow. A pretty stop to make.

2. The porch at Longmire
3. Rainier from the porch.
4. Beargrass has taken to blooming.
5. A deer eats shrubbery at Paradise.

Beautiful weather.
Well maybe a bit too hot.
The mountain has gotten crowded.
You may want to wait.
Come back in the fall.
