Day 2 of Chinese Herbs

These are photos of my Chinese herbs.

I have been given 4 days worth.
My cost was 6.00 per bag or per day, for a total of $24.00.

My herbs cooking.
The recipe is as follows:
Pour 4 cups ( as in coffee cup) into a pan, add herbs, Boil, then simmer for an hour.
( reducing liquid to 1 cup)
Drink the one cup.
(after dinner, or one hour before sleep)
Any leftover can be used for breakfast.

Cooking of herbs.
This smells like a very strong vegetable soup.
That is what it tastes like to me.

My cup of Chinese herbs, served with a small treat to make taste buds," taste," better.

Hmm. What to do with these leftover herbs?
Too good, too gold, to throw away.
I add water, boil, reduce, and use for breakfast.

If you have any questions I would be glad to share personal experience, as it goes on.
Comment with an address, or e-mail me through my blog profile.

A brief explanation of Chinese Medicine

Chinese herbs for; trauma, sadness, depression. Ailments such as headaches, TMJ, sleep apnea, allergies, lack of motivation, inability to relax.

What are the causes of Disease?

What is the secret of the Chinese life order that is so remarkable for its longevity and health?

The journalist wanted to study her own experience in China to give an answer to the question. In a couple of weeks after coming to China Muscovites felt wonderfully, the cheeks were blushing while some time before they seemed to be faded away in Moscow's haste; wrinkles became smoothed out and people hardly recollected their own diseases.

What is the secret of the Chinese life order that is so remarkable for its longevity and health?
In China, a person of any age feels he is needed in the family and in the society in general.

Till the extreme old age Chinese keep lucid minds and keen memory. They are extremely kind and quiet with respect to each other. In China, people at the age of 60-70 are not old indeed.

Correct nutrition means regular meals; Chinese take meals every four hours. While having meals they disregard any other problems.

The main forms of modern TCM can be traced back 2,500 years: in particular, the concept of Yin and Yang, which forms the basic idea behind I Ching - the Book of Change. From Yin and Yang comes a belief that health requires a constant adaptation to circumstances, and that illness is the consequence of an inability to change. From this comes the idea of a free-flowing energy of life Qi (pronounced Tchee!) which is in living people but cannot (as yet!) be pinpointed in the laboratory. Qi requires a living body to manifest itself, and a means to form and nourish that body: Xue (Chway) or 'Blood'. From the interaction of these four ideas, Yin, Yang, Qi and Xue comes much of our understanding of health according to TCM

Chinese Medicine
The Five Stagnations:

(C)2004 SMS
In ancient times, part of a physicians’ job was to help change vices into virtue. This was called "Culturing the virtue". Healing occurred when vices were changed to virtue. Taoism, the underlying philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine focused on changing personalities.

Chinese Medicine...What If?

See a Chinese Doctor, they take your pulse, give you herbs bad you get well

Research Chinese Herbs

Tonight I was eating at a Chinese restaurant., and I began talking with the owner, a wonderful friendly Chinese woman. We were talking about China, and suddenly I found myself telling her what my friend had said about Chinese medicine healing you.. "oh yes, " she answered. I was very sick from stress, was very unhappy, very sad, depressed, (Taboo words for Americans today) I saw my doctor, he took my pulse, looked at my tongue and he doesn't charge for this, he only charges a small amount for herbs. It tastes awful, you boil and strain, drink it, I got well. It cost me $12.00.

Yumiko

Today I received an e-mail unexpectedly from my old house mate, Yumiko, who lives In Japan. I am thrilled that we have reconnected! She is adorable; bright, happy, smiling Yumiko. Such a fun person, adventurous. She does the hula now a lot, and goes to Hawaii. I really miss her. Soo many memories. We had towel fights a lot at the farm, remember Yumiko? Everyone had a good time. So much laughter. Her blog, "Korisu no Sampo Michi" meaning."'The walking way of a little squirrel'" can be found at:
Korisu no Sampo Michi コリスの散歩道。

Yumiko was about 19 when she lived here in Washington at the farm in Snohomish. I remember one night coming home late from a play, and Yumiko lying on the kitchen floor, face down in a text book. The fire was going. She had had plans to go out, but was determined to build a fire, which she finally did, and then fell fast asleep in her sleeping bag there by the fire.

We had many great times together, we worked on her college papers together, I loved every minute of it. It was one of my favorite things working with her on her college papers. We would stay up sometimes all night talking about things, getting the ideas in place, typing, making all the changes. I had a computer then, and she didn't. Finally she got into studying graphics and then she got her Mac. (Always reminds me of when I was in college, and Kim and I worked on MY papers!)
Those were the Days my Friends!

An interesting site starring all the big names in spirituality, sexuality, food, so on and so on. They didn't say anything about work? You can sign on free for 30 days, you can see what there is, but you apparently cannot download anything, so it isn't much of a free trial. I guess I was disappointed that it is advertised as a free trial, but it really isn't.

Most Things Not made in china

Here are a few ideas. We could buy from artisans, (then I would have a job, too)
Now really, have you noticed the junk we are getting from China? None of this stuff is original, none of it is really nice..Because it is cheap, and unimaginative. ( Not necessarily their fault I might add). China does make some very nice stuff, but we aren't seeing much of it, and could be lowering their standards. Isn't there a law against that? Well there should be!
Kushtush organics Made by Amish, Peruvians, Americans. Some stuff grown in Texas Kushtush pet bed has a double-chambered futon of buckwheat hulls scented with natural lavender
Here are some nice organic scented petbeds for your kitty or pooch you love so much...pet beds
As much as we like natural bedding, so do our pets!

See below for some ideas, and "some" stuff from China is included.

At least the Chinese stuff reflects China as a culture. 14.95 Jewelry roll. India made mirrors w/ silk pouch 7.95. Clothes, candles, slippers, Dali Lama quotes. etc. more more, nice store.

Folding three paneled screen for inside use. Peeled cedar bent to create interesting patterns over dark backgrounded material and lined with muslin on backside. My husband calls me the twigonometrist. I use native larch, cedar, birch, and red flowering dogwood for my rustic creations. They include custom made bentwood arbors, gates, fences, twig signs, trellises, furniture for the garden or inside, shevles, hanging plant baskets, garden globes, wedding decorations, cement bird baths and stepping stones with leaf impressions and other cement sculptures.

I also make life size moose sculptures of larch and cedar. I am excited to try different sculpture forms as requested. My work is a reflection of the beauty of the Moosehead Lake area's water and mountains.

Made In Japan... nice goods
100% Woven Cotton. Prepacked. The pictures shown are close-ups of the pattern, the actual pattern is repeated many times on a Yukata. The name "Yukata" comes from "Yu (bath) "and "Katabira"(under-clothing). About one thousand years ago, court nobles wore linen "Yukatabira" which were draped loosely after taking a bath. The general public began to wear them about three hundred years ago when the sophisticated Japanese public bath became popular. Now it is widely used for everything from traditional Japanese dance and usual wear in the summer, to simple night attire. In this country they make perfect bathrobes.

SAD Valentine ...Sometimes we think we are sad, exactly, we "think" we are, but if we stop and feel our feelings, we aren't sad at all. Our thinking fools us into believing we are Sad when we aren't. So be sad if you need to for awhile, but look to see how your body really feels. Our thinking isn't very trustworthy, we can rest in our feelings, near our hearts. Happy Valentines Day!

Pet Abuse

I dislike posting this kind of stuff, but as it came to my attention, I feel I must. It is sad, and best people are aware. Please, be careful who you give kitties and, dogs, etc. to. There are such sick individauls who are harmful and creul to animals.

Pet Abuse.com

I have added a ticker below on right that will advice of animal cruelty reports.

Man on list today is a realtor, and he gets around the country, says he has a daughter to get pets to torture.

I have to say to this man, "animals are so innocent, and kind, and loving, please, maybe you need to learn about Karma, imagine what your next life is going to be like. Maybe you don't believe in it, but in this universe, nothing goes unnoticed, you will pay 100 fold for what you do to any creature, human or not, this life or another. You had better begin now seeking help to stop this behavior, I am sure it is possible. You must stop now, for your own sake as well as the sake of innocence!

From adopted sister Bebbie, on relationships, feelings, sharing, and Patriarchy

I can't think of anything more tumultuous than being in one place, while you strive to move away, let go of a "home" -- be that "home" a place, a person, or your own current identity. It is tough, tough, tough - sometimes heartbreaking. It is the labor pain of birthing the next Sherry, and you know more than I do about labor pains. You seem to be asking yourself the same Q's I do... "I can't feel who I once was, so... who WAS that woman? If I feel so many tears now, was I masking my emotions THEN? What IS the nature of peace?" I too am confused... but I see it this way -- here's a quote from a favorite OM article:

"When you bare yourself to another, you are giving them the gift of you and showing them that they also matter. In letting yourself be witnessed, you are letting others into your intimate space, stepping into the sacred container they have created for you."

This is how WE are, Sherry -- take relationships seriously, feel deeply committed, give it all we've got and crave to be treated with Reverence. Naturally, we suffer a great deal when we're ABLE to be seen / acknowledged / witnessed by the person who counts... but then we're met with blank stares, tight lips or worse, harsh rejection. This is dead wrong -- literally dead -- NO relationship is happening, it's all a one-way street like a perversion of The Golden Rule: The man with the gold makes the rules. That's what I call Patriarchy, and it's what hurts us.

Shocking Display of Power

Monday, Jan. 23, in a shocking display of power, KERRY MILLER ordered three different departments to send out teams to remove all Vote NO on C signs. The signs disappeared from the city - even many from private property.

One woman called city hall and complained that her sign had been removed from her private property and her sign was returned to her. (talk about admission of guilt)

Whole Wheat Bread made from Wheat Berries

Whole Wheat Bread made from Wheat Berries

Get wheat berries at the health food store or local co- op, or build your own co-op (see Arrowhead Mills link below)
Grind berries according to consistency you’d like in a bread, I prefer coarse. I use my kitchen aid mill attachment for grinding. It has steel blades. I used to use an antique coffee grinder that was my Grandmother’s.
(From the depression era)

Ah, toast! One is walnut wheat, one is coconut wheat. Yum Yum!

You can make it coarse or fine or in between. I also sometimes grind steel cut oats and mix with the flour.

1/2 Cup of warm water

2 ¼ Cup milk
(use whole or low fat, coconut milk,or whatever you like. I normally use whole milk)

1 Tablespoon honey (I use fireweed)
2 teaspoons salt (sea salt is my preference)
heat to 90 degrees ( body temp)..add
2 pkg yeast. Stir well
Let yeast dissolve
Then add 6 2/3 cups sifted (or 5 ¾ cups unsifted)
whole wheat flour.
Knead until completely mixed, cover and let rise in a warm place 20 minutes until doubled.

Knead (I use my mixer) but you can knead by hand, 10 minutes until it is a nice texture, springy, tough.

(if you want to add ingredients, this is when you do that, raisins, coconut, dates, sunflowers, walnuts, whatever you like.

Flatten and roll into loaves and put into baking pans, let rise one inch above pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

Arrow Head Mills
Get your own co-op together, and begin making your own whole grain products.

ABRACADABRA,"“I will create as I speak”"

[Q] From Speranza Spiratos: “Can you shed some magical clarity on the word abracadabra please?”

ABRACADABRA

[A] Let me wave my wand ... Ah, a brief sputter, then nothing. It seems the origin isn’t known for certain.
These days it’s just a joking conjuror’s incantation with no force behind it, like hocus pocus and other meaningless phrases. But the word is extremely ancient and :
*go to the site to see this*

However, it seems likely that abracadabra is older and that it derives from one of the Semitic languages “I will create as I speak”.
The source is three Hebrew words, ab (father), ben (son), and ruach acadosch (holy spirit).
It’s from the Chaldean abbada ke dabra, meaning “perish like the word”.
It originated with a Gnostic sect in Alexandria called the Basilidians and was probably based on Abrasax, the name of their supreme deity (Abraxas in Latin sources).

Happy Birthday Darla

How do we get to peace?

For me, radical peace begins inside each of us.( As we confront who we take ourselves to be, look at fears, biases, judgments.) Primarily these are all fear based. We can either love or be afraid, but denying fear doesn't change anything. If we look at our fears, we'll realize we are like everyone else, change will occur with the humility that grace extends to us.

What we project onto the world is from inside ourselves. If we believe we are better or worse than others, we create that image, if we believe the world is a horrible place, we create that as we project it upon the world.

Our perception of the world comes from inside us, not outside as much as we believe that to the contrary.A new world dawns every moment, except that we in our own holding patterns keep ourselves from freedom, and living a life that is flowing and alive.

We do have power, from inside we create what we will see, bad or good, indifferent, cruel, loving, we will add that to this illusion of life we have created. Once we are at peace inside, we will create what is only truth, what is permanent, we will be in agreement with the universe.

Power to create beauty, and harmony is love.

Love is free from fear, but we can't get there by looking outside ourselves, we must look long and hard inside. What we will see then will transform our lives and the world. It will tell us the truth of who we are.

We are that love for which we search for, we are THAT! Divinity is our truth.

Happy Birdday to me ..From Cat

My cat must have gotten confused today, he noticed my bird Xmas tree which is gone now, making a connection that I may be out of birds. He must have thought it was my ,"birdday," because he went out and got a bird and brought it in when I was not home, he seemed so dejected, he was trying to wish me a," Happy Birdday!"

Of course you'd understand why a cat wouldn't understand birthday, but would think you might be saying birdday, right?

So , this is the first time a pet gave me a birthday present, and I am sure he worked very hard to get it, as he is not very gingerly when springing. ( weighing in now at about 14 lbs.)

After dark all cats are leopards.
Native American Proverb (Zuni)

He has been so curious of late, we got a red laser light, and we use it to play with him. He is so perplexed about this red bug that is in the house, he feels a failure for not being able to capture it. He spends more time indoors now trying to catch it, and waits for it to come out. He is always looking places he has seen it disappear.

I had made it disappear into my shoes, so you can imagine how shocked he was and how funny he looked at me when I put my shoes on! Technokitty on the spot!

He was incredulous!

He even made the connection yesterday that the flashing numbers on the DVD must be where it comes from. Suddenly he had linked many household things together. He then began noticing the volume setter on the TV screen, and how it is a light going up and down. So he began watching TV a lot. Now he springs off the coach when a line is being drawn around something, on TV,( today's case a heart being drawn) moving like these electronic devices do, He paws the TV. ( Not pause, but paws)

He even noticed animals and paws them.

He is such a smart kitty, becoming conscious of things he never was before.

Wow, what a cat. Maybe his name is...." Einstein." ( Speaking of Einstein...

Searching for what WE have to say about corporations and how they treat us? Etc. Try this... Just enter, Sprint for example, or Expedia, or Orbitz,...and please do blog what you experience. Orbitz customer service reports

Orbitz has really bad CS! Don't know hw they call it customer service, except as I learned in college, any service indicated you will get the shaft! ( as in internal revenue SERVICE, social security SERVICE....hmm.

Anytime I get people, "helping," me, by being impolite, aggressive, difficult to get a hold of, uncooperative....somehow I don't feel I am being helped! Do you?

Just my report that Orbitz, along with Expedia; and Sprint, Verizon, to name a few, are totally powerful, overly aggressive, companies, that have no regard for their customer base, A scary situation, if you ask me!

I won't back off!

In the 90's airtouch screwed me, or thought they did, their CS supervisors were rude and snotty.

So I called Bartells drugstore, in Washington ( where I initially purchased the phone) with my complaint, Guess what?
They took all airtouch phones out of their stores!

Wonder who called me then? Sales rep for the area. No CS person, but the sales rep was affected by it, and the phones weren't in Bartell's anymore, Good enough for me, Fight back! BTW, I love Bartlells! If you shop locally with reputable companies with good CS, you won't get burned so bad.

BTW, Orbitz visited my blog!

How to Live without Worry and Fear

How to Live without Worry and Fear
and other titles from Dharma resource foundation, Corporate Body of Buddha Education Foundation. This ( How to live without worry and Fear) and other books distributed for free. Also downloadable information available.

"We are a Buddhist foundation based in Taipei, Taiwan, and it is our goal to promote the Buddha Dharma and to make the teachings freely available to the general public. We do not favour any one school or sect over another, and all are afforded equal respect.

Please check our list of services, and we hope that you will find something that will benefit your practice and study of the Dharma."

This book mysteriously appeared at my home, really, suddenly one day in a stack of books, there it was, and it is a gem of a book.

I suspect it was in a group of books I took from a friend that was moving away. At any rate, I learned of this organization that gives it's books away, and asks that books not be sold, but given after reading them.

I am happy to see that the WHOLE world is not marketing how not to suffer.

There is so much suffering, it is good to see that people really care.

In this world, some people have received great help from others, and then they simply use that experience to make themselves marketable, and are not helpful to others as they were helped. So I love this oranization, and I am passing it on to you to blog about, to use, to share in any way, and I hope that you do.
This would be a really good book for book crossings. What is BookCrossing?
bookcrossing:
n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.

Hierarchy to Integration/Wingmakers...maybe of interest to someone

January 13, 2006
Dear friends,
The below summary of the empowering essay Shifting Paradigms explores a key shift that is occurring in our lives and world. In the old hierarchical paradigm, we tended to look to those above us in the hierarchies of our world for answers to life's deepest questions. In the newly emerging paradigm, a growing number of us are choosing to focus more on looking for wisdom and understanding within ourselves.

Shifting Paradigms describes our changing world from a broader, deeper perspective than I have ever seen. Though the words may not touch everyone the way they did me, I invite you to see if there aren't a few pearls of wisdom below that might move and inspire you. I know from a place deep within that both individually and collectively, we are indeed shifting paradigms towards a life and world filled with ever deeper wisdom and integration. I share this essay wishing for you much inspiration and empowerment in all aspects of your life. May the times ahead for all of us be filled with an abundance of hope, meaning, and joy.

With best wishes,
Fred Burks

Happy Birthday Daphne

Daphne was born on this morning in 1968, that morning I awoke at 7:30 AM and one hour and 6 minutes later, she was born. A simple labor, and a big baby, largest in the nursery, weighing almost 9 lbs.

Daphne is my daughter and my friend, She is patient (like me) and takes good care of everyone, is the best Mom ( learned from me). Well someone has to take the credit here,..Smiling!

I was in the hospital 6 days, could have stayed a 7th, but was completely tired of being in the hospital, so I drove myself,f and my baby home and work as if I had never had a baby at all. 6 days in a hospital seems it will cure anything!

I weighed 136 when she was born. Before I became pregnant I weighed 100 lbs. I was at 100 lbs again within 6 weeks of her being born. I weighed 8'6" when I was born. My Mother weighed 13 lbs at birth! My Grandmother weighed 100 lbs when my Mother was born! My Mom was the last of 5 kids.

I just returned home from Daphnes, and it was so nice to be there with all of them, I just wish I could have been there for her birthday today.

Happy Birthday Daph!

Back in Washington..finally.....maybe just for a short stint...

A particulary interesting message from Bebbie including this quote from Joseph Campbell. Thank you Beb!

"Give it a few minutes, Hon, and things will change." Bebbie

"So yield to what is coming. We're in a free fall into future. We don't know where we're going. Things are changing so fast and always when you're going through a long tunnel, anxiety comes along.

"And all you have to do to transform your hell into a paradise is to turn your fall into a voluntary act. I mean it's a very interesting shift of
perspective, and that's all it is. Joyful participation in the sorrows
and everything changes."

I have so much to share with you all, but it may take a bit for me to get around to it. For now, let me post some beautiful swan photos from my stay in MO.
