Mary Manin Morrissey, friends of Mary..I am one!

Mary Morrisey
Previously of the Living enrichment Center in Wilsonville Oregon. Mary is a woman who has managed to move through incredible obstacles, and this last challenge she has on her plate is no exception. Friends of Mary site here is one that shows us how she is rebuidling after a "would be," devestating blow. Her determination is admirable, she sets a good example, she walks what she talks!

I met mary many years ago when I first learned of LEC. I drove to Portland and I became one of the people in my area to become involved with LEC circles.

I took my Granddaughter to meet Mary, because she had a suggestion for Lec. I couldn't get her staff to respond to this 12 year old girls message, but Mary, when I wrote her informing her of Daisy's ideas, invited us to visit. She took Daisy to her home and introduced her to her family, and above all, she listened to what Daisy had to say. She was busier than anyone at her church, yet she took time out to spend time with a young person who wanted to help. I love Mary!

Listen to her words on this site....Mary is one great speaker!

Orcas live ( but maybe not for long)... Watch Shamu swim!

Shamu live
In action.
I dislike it that these beautiful creatures are in zoo's, etc.
One died in the Vancouver aquarium. I watched him swim round and round in his cramped little world, the next time I went back, he was gone..forever.
The good that came of them being captive , however, was a world realizing these whales aren't killers.
So many were slaughtered, used for target practice years ago. In Puget Sound only 85 are left ( of the Puget Sound orcas). I think that figure is corrrect. we have lost so many recently, and they think it is because of too many boats, always watching them, making it hard for their sonar to work to find food. ( sounds disturb that process). Also salmon runs are lessened. They eat an astonshing amount of salmon a day! So recently J pod went foraging near California. They fear it is too far for them to go for food. I think we have lost something like 10 orcas in 2 years here!
Well, Kim had blogged the pandas, but it was too dark to see them, so I searched for some animal I could see.
Sigh....
I must admit, I feel I am an intruder, don't these animals deserve any privacy?
......signed, Peeping me!

Facts and info from the Zoo::

Killer whales are among the fastest swimming marine mammals. They can swim as fast as 48 kph (30 mph), but they usually cruise at much slower speeds, about 3 to 10 kph (2–6 mph).

Orcinus orca

Killer whales are members of the scientific family of toothed whales called Delphinidae, the dolphin family. The killer whale is the largest member of the dolphin family.

Killer whales live in all the oceans of the world. They’re most abundant in the Arctic and Antarctic, and areas of coldwater upwelling, where the nutrient-rich water is full of marine life to feast on.

Killer whales live in groups called pods. A pod may consist of as few as five and as many as about 30 individuals: a mix of males, females, and calves of varying ages. Sometimes, several smaller pods join together to form larger herds of 50 or more whales.

Some researchers believe that the lifespan of a killer whale is about 25 to 35 years, but no one knows for certain.

Killer whales’ sizes vary with geographical distribution. In the North Atlantic, female killer whales average about 5.5 m (18 ft.) and about 1,361 to 3,628 kg (3,000–8,000 lb.). Male killer whales are usually larger than females. A North Atlantic male averages about 6.1 m (20 ft.) and weighs about 3,628 to 5,442 kg (8,000–12,000 lb.).

Although the worldwide population of killer whales is unknown, killer whales are not endangered. In some areas of the Antarctic alone their numbers have been estimated at about 180,000. Researchers can identify individual killer whales by taking pictures of dorsal fins, noting differences in shape, relative size and scars.

World news Katrina, artists want to help...Indian Ocean lyrics

Yusuf Islam: "After the world shattering tsunami tragedy of South Asia earlier this year and seeing the unforgettable destruction wrought upon the unsuspecting people of the region, it's not hard to imagine the sheer chaos, sadness and suffering that the residents of Greater New Orleans and the surrounding area are going through at this time in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Many unfortunate people have had their lives tragically and suddenly washed away whilst those that survived are frantically searching for missing loved ones. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to everyone who has experienced loss of family, of home, and livelihood as a result of this calamity. It seems that conflict and natural disasters are occurring around the world in ever greater frequency with a more lasting impact. Only yesterday a stampede in Iraq claimed upwards of a thousand lives with hospital morgues overflowing with unidentified victims. We all share a responsibility to try and do whatever we can, however little, to help every victim recover from such devastating events and rebuild for the future - God willing." Site being built is:

LYRICS, Indian Ocean, Yusuf Islam

It was a cold day in London,
Dark clouds rumbling,
Grabbed the yellow pages under the bed,
I noticed an ad it said,
'Indian Summer', '10 Days of Wonder',
'Paradise is yours for £50!'
I thought to myself, 'That's it!'

Told the wife to pack the bag,
Forget about the plans we had
"We're going east instead."
She looked at me and shakes her head.
I said, "O now baby,
I know it sounds crazy,
But this may be the only chance we get.
We only get one life to live!"

So we grabbed the kids and some body-lotion
and we went to the middle of the
Indian Ocean

Our guide was there to meet us;
Welcome sign to greet us
Ten porters stood up like a wall
Carried our bags to the hall
The custom man smiled to me
Begs so politely
"Tell me sir, have you any more?"
I looked at him and said, "that's all."

They drove us to the beach house,
I said, "Is this all ours?"
They nodded and rolled out the bed
I turned to my wife and said,
"Ooh now honey, I guess it's still sunny,
Let's all go down for a dip
Before the sun sets."

Suddenly I gazed up,
Upon the rising wave, I
Saw the sea drawn from the sand
I grabbed the wife and kids and ran.
"Please God! save us!
Please don't blame us,
For this is the only life we have;
We'll make it up if we were bad."

The wave was a-pounding as we
scrambled up the mountain
No one even dared to turn their head
Just one slip and you're dead!

As the waves were dying,
A child was crying
Searching for her mum and dad
A thin dress was all she had
She held us tight,
We looked far and wide
But nothing there...
There was nothing left
We all broke down and wept.

Then came the morning,
A New Year was born
The girl had been with us all night
My wife looked down at her and sighed:
"O my Darling! It's suddenly dawning,
But just take a look at those eyes
She must be Paradise!"

Birdie, and others...

I have had company lately, but I am still working, just slowed down
a bit after my last firing.
Here are a few pieces I am working on, some smaller cups
(glasses), for Daphne and family, and Daisy, too.
Birdie is the large pot with the bird face, and she has birds
all over the back of her head, her chin is 2 birds,
she has bird eyes and cheeks. (Designed to hold a plant),
which will become her hair. ( Maybe she wil have a birdnest there)
She was really fun to do.
The large fushia bowl is going well, these under glazes
may not fire out, it would be nice if they kept their colors true.

I have to begin throwing again this week. I have gotten behind on my goal.
Tomorrow morning I will begin again, by weeks end, I should have nice new pots to design.
I am making some quick hand built dishes for Daisy, she says she is dishless.
I am making slab dishes, a set of three, these will just be glazed,
not designed with art, it takes a lot of time to do these pieces.
Glazes are great anyway!
I think they wil be turquoise and straw yellow.
Or turquoise and brown.

I think I will be moving in mid November.
(after I go to see Adam on the 12th in Vancouver)
Just got my studio together and it is time to move...Oh well.

I want to find a nice home to buy when I move,
at least 3 bedrooms, some land, and a studio.
~A log cabin would be nice.~ smile.....

Sleep Apnea, exercises for throat, and tongue,,chronic headaches...

Curing The Snore

With the news this week that snoring and chronic daily headache are linked, we've compiled a list for your patients of simple exercises that help in reducing snoring frequency and volume, for those who don't want to take drugs daily.

Iif you want to know the cure thats easy,

I have news on Sleep Apnea, something everyone wants, am easy solutions to a complex problem.

jerez598atgmaildotcom

We’re all aware of various devices which can be worn to prevent snoring , but there may be a simpler alternative that is worth a shot too. Exercises can make a significant difference to a tired snorer and their partner. The following patient information sheet can be printed to give to your patients.

Tongue and throat exercises, if practiced diligently over a period of time, may be of great benefit in reducing snoring. Repeat each of the following exercises 5 times each, twice daily:

1) Slowly open and close your mouth to its full extent, making sure the lips meet when closing.
2) Pucker your lips (as if about to kiss). Hold for a count of 10. Relax.
3) Spread your lips into a big, exaggerated smile. Hold. Relax.
4) Mix Exercises 2 & 3: Pucker-Hold-Smile-Hold.
5) Try to pucker with your mouth wide open, without closing your jaws together. Hold & relax.
6) Close your lips and press them tightly together.
7) Close your lips firmly, then make a ‘slurping’ noise, as if sipping a drink.
8) Open your mouth and stick out your tongue. Be sure your tongue comes straight out of your mouth and doesn’t go off the side. Hold, relax and repeat several times. Work toward sticking your tongue out farther each day, but still pointing straight ahead.
9) Stick out your tongue and move it slowly from corner to corner of your lips. Hold in each corner, relax and repeat several times. Be sure your tongue actually touches each corner each time.
10) Stick out your tongue and try to reach your chin with the tongue tip. Hold at the farthest extension.
11) Stick out your tongue and try to touch your nose with the tongue tip. Hold at farthest extension.
12) Stick out your tongue. Hold a spoon upright against the tip of your extended tongue and try to push it away while your hand holds the spoon in place.
13) Repeatedly stick your tongue in and out as fast as you can.
14) Flick your tongue from corner to corner as quickly as you can.
15) Move tongue all around your lips in a circle as quickly as you can, making sure you stay in constant contact.
16) Open and close mouth as quickly as you can, making sure your lips close each time.
17) Say ‘Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma’ as quickly as possible, ensuring there's an ‘em’ and an ‘ah’ sound each time.
18) Repeat with ‘La-La-La-La.’
19) Repeat with ‘Ka-Ka-Ka-Ka’ as quickly and accurately as you can.
20) Repeat with ‘Kala-Kala-Kala-Kala.’
21) Gargle loudly with warm water.
22) Sing through the vowel sounds (A-E-I-O-U) as loudly as you can (or dare). Songs like ‘Old McDonald Had a Farm’ are also good.

Chronic Headache Linked To Snoring

A new study finds a link between snoring and chronic daily headache. The study, published in the April 22 issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology, examined the snoring habits of people with chronic daily headache and people with occasional headaches.

Chronic daily headache was defined as people with at least 15 headaches per month. Occasional headache was defined as two to 104 headaches per year.

People with chronic daily headache were more than twice as likely to also be chronic snorers than those with occasional headaches. The result was the same even when adjusting for factors that can affect breathing in sleep, such as body mass index and alcohol intake.

'If we can show that the snoring is causing the headaches, then we may be able to stop or lessen people's headaches by treating their snoring,' said study author Ann Scher, PhD, of the National Institute on Aging in Bethesda, Md. 'This would be a great relief to people who suffer from chronic daily headache.'

The study involved 206 people aged 18 to 65 who had suffered from chronic daily headache for five years or less and 507 people with occasional headache. Those with chronic headache had an average of 260 days with headaches per year. Those with occasional headache had an average of 24 headache days per year.

The participants were asked how often they snored, and researchers classified their headache types. Scher noted that few studies have validated the accuracy of having patients report their own snoring status. To test the validity, the researchers analysed the link between snoring and chronic daily headache data separately by gender, age, marital status and headache type and found no significant differences.

Those with chronic daily headache were more likely to be female, have a lower educational level and have been previously married (divorced, widowed or separated) than those with occasional headache.

Scher said more research is needed to determine the link between snoring and chronic daily headache. 'The headaches could be causing the snoring, or the snoring could be causing the headaches, or both,' she said. 'Chronic headache can result in disturbed sleep, and sedating medications used to treat pain can aggravate sleep-disordered breathing. On the other side, sleep deprivation or excessive sleep can trigger migraine attacks in some people.'

Jab Stops Snoring In Its Tracks

An injection in the back of the mouth can prevent snoring, reports New Scientist today.

Scott Brietzke told delegates last week at a meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology’s Head and Neck Surgery in Denver. This ‘snoreplasty’ technique is effective, relatively painless and costs only about $35 per patient.

Patients undergo treatment that involves injecting a chemical called tetradecyl sulphate into the fleshy soft palate at the back of the throat. Scar tissue is then formed which stiffens the soft palate, reducing the amount of fluttering of the tissues and hence snoring.

The technique was developed at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethseda, Maryland and can reduce the loudness of snoring from 11 decibels to 2 decibels.

Andrew Cummin of London’s Charing Cross Hospital, commented, ‘This certainly seems preferable to trimming the soft palate. Trimming the palate can cause irreparable damage. If too much of the palate is removed, patients can experience regurgitation of fizzy drinks through the nostrils, or they can have trouble swallowing.’

On Monday, researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine announced another potential cure for snoring.

Photo...Horses IN Snohomish

I am only sorry I don't have a photo to share today of MIllie picking blueberries today. I didn't have my camera.
Previously in a blog I mentioned meeting Millie when I went to Snohomish a berryin, and how much fun it was there all the women and children laughing, and kids squealing with delight. Sounds that warm the heart.

Millie happened to be picking near me, and so we began a conversation that covered every topic worth discussing.
I was delighted.

So today I went back and picked again, Millie was going, so I just met here there.

Again we talked about so many things, and she brought a copy of a Government document concerning invading Cuba in the 60's. The project was called Operation Mongoose
AKA Northwoods
It is dated March 13,1962. It is also referrred to as Operation Mongoose. It's goal; to provoke military action against Cuba.

From Demopedia

It is a very interesting document and timely since 911 to understand how the powers that be in our country actually work.

Astonished.

What comes from 2 gentle women a berryin!

Who would guess we'd exchange such information about control in this country?

For me I realized how very much we all need to cultivate the flowers of awareness, it's fruit being peace, so that this type of thing will one day stop, and the sooner the better!

Seek peace, so it might be our future.

First it must be our present.

Thanks to Millie, I had a very happy, inspiring and hopeful day!

Idosyncratic 5's...Debbie

Debbie in Kentucky said...

I sleep alone in a kingsize bed... 5 days on the left, 5 days on the right, then change the sheets.

Putting away dishes & flatware, clean ones always go on the Bottom of the stack.

My goal when driving is to take the shortest distance between Points A and B, and hit the brakes SELDOM as possible. Which leads to #4...

Driving is like shooting pool – you only have to miss by a LITTLE bit! (Passengers enjoy white-knuckle moments with me but hey, that's all in THEIR heads...)

Finally... when I put on shoes & socks I always wonder, "In case of shocking emergency, should I put on both socks first, or one shoe / one sock before dressing my second foot? What’s more functional for running out the door? 50 years, and I still can’t figure this out!"

My five:
Kim tagged me for this...what..I don't have any Idiosyncrasies...well let me think about that...
I am an Aquarian, but my rising sign is Pisces. Therefore I am a brooding type. I worry.
Also as Aquarian, I am flakey, drifting, and in the air, conceptualizing.
I won't pass by a penny. My Grandmother was so thrifty, saving money, pinching pennies. I would feel it bad luck to do that.
I check my e-mail every morning as soon as I get up.
I clean my studio after each use, it is just part of the ceremony of it all, the cleaning and leaving it fit to reenter the next time for the next and different process I will undertake.

I will tag Debbie so that she will start blogging!

Earth Reborn

Christiane Perrochon Blogged by my friend Kim, these pieces of earth; formed and glazed, and this site, exquisite,....

Art of sensuality

I love the sensuality of taking a brush to a lovely white, smooth, freshly throw and trimmed piece of porcelain to make the first and also unalterable design on it's pale and lovely surface. I never know really exactly what I will paint there with my brush, especially if I am beginning a new series. Just as a brush flows, the design flows, and I must trust it to become a stroke that will complete the life of any vessel I approach.

More so than the empty sheet of paper standing naked, waiting for words, or canvass white and clean, this first touch is so intimate, most willing to be touched, and completed.

Of course I have my glazes, all these wonderful colors I want to use on porcelain, but if I use them, I miss this experience of touching this still moist, fresh, and beautiful canvas of clay.

I have things now thrown and trimmed; moist, waiting, waiting to see. Will these be simply glazed or will a design be added to the surface? I don't know. Just as I don't know what design will evolve, I don't know what will happen to these new vessels.

I might think at times that I am the one deciding this, but in reality, I have no such plan. I am like the brush, just a willing instrument of whatever that which wills, creates.

My life, appears is a holy experiment.
