Hallween contact lenses?
Can you believe it's October already? Tasting sweet memories, filling my soul..

There is a distinct chill in the air here, now. The house is chilled too, and today, October winds are already blowing
My black cat is curled by the window on his fleece red blanket, that sits atop his zabuton.
Afterall, he is the Puddha.
Twice it took to get him to consider going outside this morning, the wind wasn't very appealing to him, he'd prefer the drizzle over it.
Umm, there were racoon tracks on my door step last night as I came in from being out, (my my mexican food twice in the last 4 days). My favorite BTW is cheese enchiladas with onions and ( make that cheddar cheese) beans, rice, guacamole, salad,,umm.. Yum yum!
This time of year, harvest time, turns ones thoughts to canning, cooking, baking. So many choices, 'pies', because yes, Sunday I drove to LaConner and went to an orchard and bought honey crisp apples ( so big, they weigh about a pound a piece).
I bought Jonagold too, , for pies. 1.00 a pound at the orchard. Good price, Honey crisps fetch 2.49 at the stores.
Karen (my Kentucky friend) said to bake some, what a great idea, they make the house smell so good, baked apples. Taste yummy topped with cinnamon. Oh and I like making a nice compote for pancakes, with raisins and apples, spices , butter, sugar.
I'm missing my family tho as I speak about cooking and fall times. and all that. I am taken back to when I was a little girl, living in PA, and raking fall leaves to jump into. Eating Grandma's home made bread with butter, hot from the oven. My brothers birthday, the 18th of October. He was 15 months older than me.
Had a note from my cousin yesterday, reminiscing family ties then, the beauty of it all, having so much connection so close by, better than fingertips on a keyboard, and internet.
I remember my mother ironing, I was looking up at her from way down where 3 or 4 year olds look up from, saying, "Mummie, could we go see that little gift that lives down the alley?" "You mean your cousin" She replied, ..that gave me pause to consider.. We went for a visit.
She lived in the next block. All us kids in the neighborhood played together on a vacant lot, to us it was a jungle. Hmm, the sweet memories,,they just roll over me. My kids never knew that kind of life and they never knew what it was like to be with my family, after our move, things just came all apart. Everyone going their own ways. Karen , My cousin and I both miss our families, and the closeness of it all. Family reunions, but not sure why, we all lived there! haha Pop so much pop, so many flavors, and we were wasteful trying them all out. Strawberry soda, orange soda, rootbeer, some memories are just vivid.
My mind is wandering again...flitting here and there, tasting sweet memories, filling my soul.
Pozole from Melissa

I was sent an invite for a recipe letter, and I just received the first one, umm sounds so good, thought I'd share what I get here..
To make Pozole:
Hominy either from the can or dry. If you use the canned stuff be sure to rinse it off well......If you use the dry plan to soak it or cook it all night.
Dry Chile
Mexican Oregano
Broth
Can of diced tomatoes or fresh
Chicken, pork
Corn Tortillas
Avocado
Feta Cheese
Onion
Lime
More oregano
More dried Chile flakes
Turn your crock pot on. If you make it the night before it seems to taste better.... I usually set it for 10-12 hours, but if you used the canned stuff you can do it in 4.....
Pour in Hominy, Canned tomatoes, Chiles whole just for flavor or if you only have flakes just add a few pinches so it isn't too spicy. I usually put in a chunk of onion, some oregano and the chicken or pork. It can also be made with out meat. Garlic is good in there too. Pour broth or water over the top until covered........sea salt it to taste....
Then, once it is ready, cut into stripes and fry some tortillas until crisp. Cube some avocado, dice onion, divide lime and have the oregano, Chile flakes and feta on hand...all of this can be added to the top of your soup......you can even add lettuce in thin slices or cabbage in thin slices......
Play with this recipe. I think it is the stuff on top that makes it so good.

Flowers are a perfect surprise for anyone , any day, in my opinion..You can send flowers to me anytime!! I think I'd like one of those 'gift a month deals'...lol. hint hint

Pygmy Goats, Will it get my neighbors goat?

Pygmie goats have been accepted by Seattle and Everett WA. cities to be legal pets.
You can even loan them out!
Maybe They eat your grass so you don't have to mow it, and make milk I am not allergic to. AND judging by prices at Safeway and Albertsons, our usually reasonable grocery stores lately, ( like soy milk at about 4.00 a half gallon) I think maybe a goat might be a good idea.
They're real cute too!
I've been lookiing for pygmy goats online, they cost around 150.00 here abouts, but can be flown in from any number of states for MUCH more than that!
I may just have to get a goat, I wonder if it will 'get my neighbors goat'?
you tube baby pygmie goats
Uh Oh, Just read in Craigslistseattle
Now that goats ore legal in Seattle, I am getting all kinds of calls to my farm looking for some.
I currently have none to sell, but......
PLEASE before you consider taking on a goat or two, do some research.
They are wonderful to have around, but do require care.
At minimum:
A dry shelter-goats hate rain.
Quality hay and sometimes grain-no they don't eat trash
Goats are browsers not grazers-means they will eat branches (SOME will eat blackberries)but they won't do a very good job on your lawn.
They need their hooves trimmed every couple of months-easy to do once you learn how.
They need regular worming and vaccinations.
They do best in a least pairs a single goat is a lonely goat.
If you are looking to milk, be aware that the doe must first freshen(give birth) and will give milk as long as you milk her regularly (this means at least twice a day) -every day.
If you are looking for a backyard goat, they need not be registered, but to show in sanctioned shows, they do. 4-H goats must be dehorned.
You can get more information through the NDGA (national dairy goat association) or the NPGA (national pygmy goat association) Most reputable breeders will want you to have the information you need and will be happy to answer questions and help you get started.
